Someone once drove across Wyoming and then declared that there was
no Wyoming. Most of the state stretches on and on with
wide-open, sagebrush-covered western prairie, stark vistas and
endless sky, but some areas, most notably the northwestern corner,
are home to soaring, snow-topped peaks and mountain meadows, and the trip from
Yellowstone down to Jackson Hole offers jaw-dropping
beauty. The state is dotted with working cattle ranches,
and one often expects John Wayne to come riding up from the
distance. People who live in Wyoming are generally
conservative and very independent. There are also,
surprisingly, a lot of millionaires in this state.
The Powder Horn Ranch and Golf Club
Located in Sheridan on 600 acres 150 miles north of
Casper (and 20 miles south of the Montana border), this community
sits at the foot of the Big Horn Mountains. Single-family
homes and patio homes are for sale, ranging from 1,000 square feet
to 2,500 square feet, and are on the expensive side. There are
no age restrictions (the average age is 55), and children are
allowed as residents. The majority of those living here are
from other parts of Wyoming, but 30% come from Colorado, California
and Montana. The community has an 18 hole championship
golf course that was nominated in 1998 for Golf Digest's Best
New Course. Those who would like to come stay here before
buying are offered discounted rates.
