Tucson, Arizona is located just 60 miles north of the
United States-Mexican border and is just over 100 miles from
Phoenix, in the southwest corner of Arizona. More
than 500,000
people call the city of Tucson home.
The city experiences two major seasons in the year: summer
and winter. It also has three more minor seasons: spring, fall
and monsoon season. In the summer, the temperature often
exceeds 100 degrees, but humidity is very low. In the winter,
temperatures are mild and fall anywhere between 65 and 75
degrees. The monsoon season is the only season that
experiences more humidity in the year, but the monsoon season
is relatively short, lasting only a month or so.
Throughout the year the city is alive with festivals and celebrations
to recognize its diverse culture and
heritage. There are the Tucson Folk Festival, street fairs, and
for the sports enthusiasts, the rodeo comes through town in
February. The Tucson Symphony Orchestra holds concerts
throughout the year, and there is a love of mariachi music in
the city. Tucson holds the Tucson International Mariachi
Conference annually.
Tucson is also an important city for baseball. Many teams
choose it as their spring training site, including the
Arizona Diamondbacks, the Chicago White Sox and the Colorado
Rockies. The city was also named a bicycle friendly city and hosts a
cycle race annually.
With so many cultural influences and opportunities to
experience life at any pace, Tucson is the perfect southwest
town.
