Tubac, Arizona

Back to Arizona

Tubac, Arizona, located in the southern part of the state, in Santa Cruz River Valley and is a small place, home to less than 1,000 residents.   Known as an artist colony, it is beautiful landscaped and was the first European colony in Arizona, established in 1752.

If shopping intrigues you, then Tubac’s quaint shops full of elegant handmade crafts and artwork will be hard to resist.    Because it’s an artist colony, there is ample opportunity to view and purchase many sculptures, paintings, crafts, and clothing. There is also the Tumacacori Mission built in 1691 to check out.

Tubac has great outdoor activities including hiking, off-road adventures, birding and golfing, and in nearby areas,  the Kartchner Caves and Ruby Ghost Town are fun to explore with the grandkids.  There is a winery located thirty minutes away, and hking to the nature conservancy or in the Patagonia State Park are popular outdoor activities.  If you are interested in science, there is the Titan Missile Museum and the Whipple Observatory.

Tubac is a quiet hidden treasure in the cottonwood and mesquite forests of Arizona. It is a great place to relax, unwind, and let yourself enjoy the easy pace of retirement there.
