St. George, Utah is located in the southwest corner of
the state in Washington County and is just over 300 miles south
of Salt Lake City. The city’s population is just over 75,000.
This is a place for retirees who enjoy warm and hot weather. The low elevation
of the city also affects the weather, and temperatures range anywhere
from the mid fifties in the winter to over one hundred degrees in the
summer. St. George also experiences cooler evenings because of the low
humidity in the area.
The city was originally founded as a cotton mission in 1861. St.
George also has the third oldest running Church of Latter Day Saints
temple, the St. George Utah Temple, and was the location of the
first bed and breakfast in Utah—still in operation today within St.
George’s historic district. St. George is also home to Dixie State
College of Utah.
St. George has a Golden Baseball League team, the St. George
Roadrunners, but the most of the other sports in the area consist of high school
sports teams, though the residents are still just as excited to watch these games.
This is a great place to retire. The view alone will draw you
in, with the red bluffs in the north, covered by lava rock, the Mojave
Desert to the south, and the Pine Valley Mountains in the northwest.
