Russellville, Arkansas
Retirement
| The northwest and
north central corners of Arkansas are gaining a deserved
reputation as a recreation oasis, with the Ozark
Mountains and plenty of lakes and streams, and the low
key town of Russellville, population 20,000, is situated
along the Arkansas River in the middle of this natural
beauty. Retirees, in particular, are discovering
Russellville, appreciating the affordable homes, low
cost of living, roughly 15% below the national average,
and the leisurely lifestyle. Of the population,
32% is age 45 or better.

The main reason to retire here is the bounty of
opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors. Lake
Dardanelle, 35,0000 acres of fresh, clean water, and
Lake Dardanelle State Park provide a playground where
adventurous retirees can play all year long.
Fishing is particular popular here, and bass fishermen
travel from around the region to partake in the local
waters. Camping, kayaking, river rafting,
bird watching, hiking and rock climbing round out the
choices. In short, there is always something to
do.
Things to do indoors a bit more limited, but there is
an Art Walk every four months, an event in which
residents can get out to enjoy the local artistic
offerings while listening to music and sampling great
food.

| Russellville
does not have a public bus system, but it has a very
good medical facility. St. Mary's Regional
Medical Center is accredited by the Joint Commission and
meets or exceeds national averages in most areas.
It should be noted that Russellville is the site of
Arkansas Nuclear One, Arkansas' only nuclear
reactor. The facility was built in 1974 and has a
reliable safety record.
Crime in Russellville is above the national average
but only slightly, and most crime is property related.
This is a very conservative town, one in which 70% or
more of residents call themselves Republican.
Traditional values matter and are respected.
Small but welcoming, Russellville offers an
affordable retirement in a very pretty locale and should
be considered at retirement time.
