Pinehurst,
North Carolina
Return
to North Carolina
Pinehurst, North Carolina is located in the center of the
southern part of the state. It is a small town with only a
little more than 9,000 residents, but Pinehurst has a big
presence. It was originally founded by James Walker Tufts, a
soda fountain magnate from Boston. He bought the land in 1895
and began building the first hotel and golf course on the
property.

The town is home to the prestigious Pinehurst Resort, which
was the location for the U.S. Open Golf Championships in 1999
and 2005. The resort has eight golf courses and also hosts
championship croquet. If golf isn’t your thing, there are
other places to check out in Pinehurst. Nature lovers will want
to experience the Sandhills Horticultural Gardens, and there are
community festivals and unique village shops that are also
points of interest.
The area where Pinehurst is located experiences a mild, dry
climate. The area has warm days and cool winters throughout the
year, and with the low humidity, the climate is perfect for
playing golf or doing other activities outside all year long.
Because of the easygoing lifestyle you’ll experience in
Pinehurst, it is a perfect place to retire. If you love to be
outdoors, or you love golf, this is the place for you.
