Oregon is interesting in that its Cascade Mountains
divide the state into a well-watered west side and arid east side. The
climate is temperate, and the land ranges from desert to rain forest.

Oregon's stunning coast and mountain scenery are its main tourist and
retirement attractions; outdoor recreation is more than
plentiful. Bustling Portland offers indoor diversions such as art
museums and fine restaurants. Oregon is known for sport-fishing
and sees thousands of anglers enjoying its many rivers and lakes every
year. The state was the end point of Lewis and Clark's journey
in 1805, and in the1840s it was the endpoint of the Oregon Trail.
In 1859 Oregon became the 33rd state. |
