The climate in New Jersey is mostly temperate
with humid hot summers and cold winters, with nor’easters
pelting the state with rain and snow. The temperatures can range
greatly between the ocean-facing Cape May-area (27 degrees in
winter to 67 degrees in summer) to the mountains in Sussex (34
degrees in winter to 83 degrees in summer).
Trenton is the capital and Newark is the
largest city in New Jersey. Nearly 18% of New Jersey’s
ancestors are Italian and 37% of the population is Catholic.
Jersey’s main industry is in oil refining with six major
refineries in the state. Newark Liberty International Airport is
considered one of the busiest airports in the nation. Atlantic
City International Airport and Trenton-Mercer Airport also
provide access throughout the state. Ferry service is also
prevalent in New Jersey, especially among commuters.
In the summer, visitors spend hours on the beaches
and boardwalks of New Jersey’s shoreline. Lighthouses, gardens,
parks and wineries round out a great list of things to do while in
New Jersey. Winter activities such as skiing, snowboarding and
tubing can be enjoyed in the mountains of Sussex County.
