As the county seat of Craven County, New Bern, North
Carolina has a population of over 27,000 residents and is the second
oldest town in the state. New Bern is also known as the birthplace of
Pepsi, invented by pharmacist Caleb Bradham.
Things to do in New Bern include the USMC Aviation
Museum, Firemen’s Museum, Tryon Palace sites and gardens, and the
Croatan National Forest.
The climate in New Bern is humid but winter lows only
reach the mid 30’s and the summer reach the high 80’s. Precipitation
averages about 7 inches in the summer months as well. Craven County
Regional Airport is located 4 miles away and Kinston Regional Airport is
about 40miles.
The commerce in New Bern is largely supported by the
Marine Corps Air Station at Cherry Point as well as manufacturing firms
like Weyerhaueser and Moen.
