Myrtle Beach, South Carolina boasts a population of more than 23,000 residents along the beach-laden Grand Strand coastline. Considered primarily a resort town, attractions include restaurants, festivals and amusement parks. Hosting more than 10 million tourists each year, Myrtle Beach is considered the "Golf Capital of the World" with 120 golf courses located there. Myrtle Beach Speedway features stock car racing and draws visitors on a regular basis.

 

 The economy of Myrtle Beach is primarily tourism, but the metro area is home to Coastal Carolina University, Horry-Georgetown Technical College, and a branch of Webster University. Myrtle Beach International Airport, on the Air Force base in town, serves the area.

Myrtle Beach weather features mild temperatures and ocean breezes for a perfect visit any time of year. Average winter temperatures are in the upper 50’s to lower 60’s with about 50% humidity. Summers average about 90 degrees with 80% humidity.

Retirees are attracted to Myrtle Beach for its affordable cost-of-living; the town ranks 4% below the national average.   Nearly 23% of the population is age 45 to 64, and 15.0% is age 65 or better.

Columbia Grand Strand Regional Medical Center is the primary medical care facility and offers emergency care, cardiac care and cancer care.  Conway Hospital offers cardiac rehabilitation, emergency care and has a trauma center.  Loris Community Hospital provides emergency and non-emergency care.
