Kentucky, "the Bluegrass State," is located in just south of
the Midwestern states, under Indiana, Illinois, and Ohio. Sometimes it is
included in the category of Midwestern states, but is often referred to as
a southern state. Kentucky is home to more than four million people. And
those people enjoy many things about Kentucky: horses, college basketball,
bluegrass, and bourbon distilleries.
Kentucky has the constantly changing weather known in the Midwestern
states, but retains a fairly moderate climate overall. The temperature
averages for Kentucky are 23 degrees in winter and up to 90 degrees in
summer.
Nature lovers will adore Kentucky. The state has a national park, two
national historic parks, and more than a handful of state parks for
recreation and enjoyment. Kentucky also cares about the environment, being
a leader in species reintroduction. Kentucky has been reintroducing elk to
the state, and brought wild turkeys in the state from nonexistence to the
largest number of wild turkeys per capita than in any other state.
More natural wonders that Kentucky has to explore are the Mammoth Caves
system and the Cumberland Gap, the main passageway through the Appalachian
Mountains, a vital part of early American History.
Kentucky also has all the modern fun and adventure that you seek. In
the city of Louisville, you can find the excitement of the Kentucky Derby.
It is also the home of Six Flags Kentucky. If you want to take it easy,
there are many museums to check out, such as the Louisville Slugger Museum
and the Mohammad Ali Center. You can even do a little ghost hunting at the
Waverly Hills Sanatorium, known as one of the most haunted places in the
nation.
Louisville is also home to many performing art events, and it wouldn’t
be Kentucky without sports. Particularly college sports, Kentuckians root
for their favorite teams each season. Most of the college teams perform
well and win honors each season. No wonder so many people love to live in
Kentucky!
