Georgetown is a city in Texas with a
population of over 28,000. It is the county seat of Williamson
County and located 26 miles north of Austin on 24.9 square
miles. Founded in 1848, it was named for George Washington
Glasscock who donated the land. In 1997, Georgetown was the
first city that Texas designated a national Main Street City.
The average temperatures in Georgetown run
in the lows of 50 degrees to average highs in the mid 80’s
in summer. Georgetown Municipal Airport is located about 2
miles away, while Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is 33
miles away.
Georgetown is the home to Southwestern
University. Other attractions include Blue Hole lagoon, Candle
Factory, Lake Georgetown, Inner Space Caverns, Palace Theatre,
Sunken Gardens, Veterans Memorial Plaza, and Williamson County
Historical Museum. Georgetown has served as filming location
for the following movies: Michael, 1996; Varsity
Blues, 1999; and Grindhouse, 2007.
