Eagles Mere,
Pennsylvania Retirement
| Idyllic Eagles
Mere, population just 150 people, got its start as a
summer resort for prosperous Philadelphians in the
1800s. It has a mountain location in the
northeastern part of the state and has an elevation of
roughly 2,000 fee. It is cute, lush
and rural, and it has a popular lakefront. The
cost of living is well above the national average, and
the median home price is in the $300,000s.
Of the population, nearly 72% is age 45 or better.

When 19th-century Philadelphians came here, they were
searching for a cool climate. In Eagles Mere, they
found exactly what they wanted. The average July
temperature is just 76 degrees and the average winter
temperature is 15 degrees. It rains roughly 45
inches a year and snows 65 inches a year. On the
comfort index, a combination of temperature and
humidity, Eagles Mere beats the national average.
This is a conservative place, and it is not growing
much. Residents are mostly retirees.
Homes are beautiful, and many are lovingly restored
Victorians, giving Eagles Mere a historic cityscape full
of charm and elegance. Combined with the
surrounding unspoiled landscape, this little
Pennsylvania village makes for a pretty spot indeed.

| There
is no public transportation, which is to be expected in
a town this size. The downtown is quaint,
with boutiques, a great bookstore and eateries.
And there is no local hospital. The nearest
full service medical facility is in Muncy, 18 miles
away. It is small, with just 25 beds, but it
is accredited by the Joint Commission and meets or
exceeds national averages in all areas. And when
comes to a healthy environment, Eagles Mere boast air
quality and water quality above the national averages.
Crime is but a concept in Eagles Mere.
For people seeking a retirement far away from the
stresses of modern life, Eagles Mere is worth a
look. It does not have much in the way of
amenities, but it is safe, charming and full of historic
charcater.
