This is a typical college town, but it also lives up to its
nickname of "the southern part of Heaven." The center
of town actually does sit on top of a hill - lending its name to
its location. The history of Chapel Hill begins in the early
nineteenth century when it was built to serve as a site for the
University of North Carolina.
But Chapel Hill is known for more than the university.
It has become a center for American cuisine and hosts a handful
of clubs and bars that cater to the city’s eclectic and
international music scene. Chapel Hill also boasts one of the
oldest planetariums, built in 1949.
The city is known for its support of college
basketball. The UNC-CH basketball and soccer teams have
consistently performed extremely well, and residents continue to
show their appreciation.
Chapel Hill experiences a moderate climate, seeing highs in the
summer up to 85 degrees. The winters are cool, with the average
temperature about 32 degrees.
With its history and avid sports fans, Chapel Hill is a great
place for the sports lover or music lover. And being
the southern part of Heaven, you’ll be guaranteed to have fun.
