Burlington is the largest city in Vermont with a
population of 38,889; however, it is the smallest U.S. city that is the
largest in its state. Located in the northwestern part of the state,
Burlington sits on 15.5 square miles on the eastern shore of Lake
Champlain.
The weather in Burlington ranges from 10-20 degrees in
winter to 75-85 in the summer. Visitors to Burlington enjoy one of New
England’s top jazz festivals each year, museums and seasonal
performances by the Vermont Symphony Orchestra. With the proximity to the
Green Mountains, there are hiking trails and ski resorts. No visit is
complete without a tour of Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream Factory as well.
Burlington was ranked ninth-best city to live based on
health, quality of life, and fitness in 2006. It is also the home of the
University of Vermont.
