Return to Vermont

Burlington is the largest city in Vermont with a population of 38,889; however, it is the smallest U.S. city that is the largest in its state. Located in the northwestern part of the state, Burlington sits on 15.5 square miles on the eastern shore of Lake Champlain.

The weather in Burlington ranges from 10-20 degrees in winter to 75-85 in the summer. Visitors to Burlington enjoy one of New England’s top jazz festivals each year, museums and seasonal performances by the Vermont Symphony Orchestra. With the proximity to the Green Mountains, there are hiking trails and ski resorts. No visit is complete without a tour of Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream Factory as well.

Burlington was ranked ninth-best city to live based on health, quality of life, and fitness in 2006. It is also the home of the University of Vermont.
