Bossier City, Louisiana is located in the northwest corner of the state
along the Red River, sharing the banks with its sister city, Shreveport.
The population of the city is more than 56,000 people. The
city's history dates back to the Civil War, when Confederate soldiers set
up Fort Smith in the area. Bossier High School is now near the
area that the fort was originally established. Throughout the
years, many people have passed through Bossier City and decided to stay,
mainly because of the rich soil that was present in the river valley the
city sets in. The city experiences a mild climate throughout
the year.
Bossier City also has a place in the great history of
railroads. It was the site for the first woman to drive in a
commemorative gold spike, which became part of the Shreveport and Pacific
Railroad.
One of the largest employers in the city is the Barksdale Air Force
Base. It has been here since 1933 and brings a great presence
to the city. Bossier City is also home to an arena football team.
